Ironing slacks is one of those household tasks that everyone should know how to do. It doesn't matter if you are a man, woman or child, you will have to iron your own or someone else's slacks at some point in your life. Luckily, ironing a pair of slacks isn't too difficult of a task to master.

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Check the tag in your slacks to see what the pair's ironing needs are. Different types of fabrics require different temperature settings, and different levels of steam. Too high of a temperature, or too much moisture, can ruin some fabrics; too low of a temperature, and too dry a setting, will not remove the wrinkles.

  2. Step 2

Arrange the pants on the ironing board. If the slacks have a crease down the middle of each pant leg, fold the pants along that line. This is easiest to do if you hold the slacks up by the ankle and match up the seams. If the pants are creaseless, lay out the leg flat, with the seams on the sides.

  3. Step 3

Run your hand down the length of the leg you are going to iron to smooth it out. Press the slacks when the iron has heated up. Start at the bottom hem and work toward the waistband. Take special care to use the point of the iron when ironing around any pockets.

  4. Step 4

Press firmly down the crease if the slacks have them. Use steam (according to the tag's directions) to set the crease.

  5. Step 5

Repeat the process with the other pant leg.
