Things You'll Need:
- Plunger
- Wire coat hanger
- Baking soda
- Warm soapy water
-
Step 1
Grab the plunger and hold it tightly with two hands, rubber part first, and slowly immerse it in the toilet bowl water. Be careful not to splosh water on the floor. Place the rubber part of the plunger over the exit hole of the toilet and push down hard on it. This will cause a big ripple in the water, and if you are lucky enough to have de-clogged your toilet on the first try, the water will go down. If not, then try plunging again a few times more to see if the clog will budge.
-
Step 2
Cut a wire coat hanger at the base of the hanging part, and bend the wire so that it is long enough to reach into the "S" bend of the toilet where the clog may be. Poke the wire carefully into the exit hole at the base of the toilet and push it as far as it will go. Wiggle it around to see if it shifts the clog.
-
Step 3
Sprinkle baking soda into the toilet bowl to see if this action will unclog the problem. Let the baking soda sit for a few minutes. If this action is working, then the water will slowly start to go down.
-
Step 4
Fill a bucket with warm soapy water. Pour a little of the warm soapy water down the toilet. If the water moves a little as if is releasing a bubble, then the toilet may be unclogging. Allow the water level to go down, then pour in more warm soapy water and see if it goes down. Repeat Steps 1 through 4 if these remedies do not unclog your toilet.
