So you have a hankering for some spicy enchiladas, but the pre-made powder mix for the sauce just doesn't do the trick. Spoon your enchilada sauce over rolled, stuffed tortillas, add it to burritos or tacos, pour it over nachos, or use it as a spicy dipping sauce for chips or veggies. For an extra spicy and colorful touch, garnish your Mexican dishes with jalapeño pepper slices.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • 1 stick butter
  • Medium saucepan
  • 3 tbsp. sifted flour
  • 1 cup water
  • 3 tsp. beef bouillon granules
  • 2 tbsp. chili powder
  • 1 tsp. ground cumin

Step1
Melt butter in a medium saucepan over low heat. Slowly add the sifted flour, stirring well in order to create an even paste. Make sure that you work out any clumps for a smooth and perfect enchilada sauce.
Step2
Dissolve the beef bouillon granules into the water, then pour into the saucepan.
Step3
Add the chili powder and ground cumin. Go easy on the chili powder if you can't handle spicy foods. Stir in the chili powder a little at a time until you reach your desired spice level.
Step4
Simmer your easy enchilada sauce until it thickens to the desired consistency.

Tips & Warnings

  • Add cooked hamburger, beef or chicken strips directly into the sauce before serving.
