How to Make Beeswax Antiseptic Balm

Beeswax is one of nature's best natural healers. It acts as an antiseptic and will promote healing of minor cuts and scrapes. It can sooth and moisturize dry skin, but it won't clog the pores or promote blackheads or acne. You'll find that beeswax antiseptic balm works much better than commercial balms, is completely natural and is cheaper, too.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • Double boiler
  • 1 oz. jojoba oil
  • 3 oz. sweet almond oil
  • 2 oz. beeswax
  • 20 drops wheatgerm oil
  • 20 drops tea tree essential oil
  • 20 drops myrrh essential oil
  • 4 1-oz. metal tins or salve jars
Step1
Heat the jojoba oil and sweet almond oil in the top of a double boiler over low heat. A double boiler will keep the beeswax from catching fire while you heat it.
Step2
Add the beeswax and heat it, stirring occasionally until it melts.
Step3
Allow the mixture to cool slightly. Place a small amount on a spoon to check the consistency. If you want thicker balm, add more beeswax, and if you prefer it thinner, add less beeswax or a bit more sweet almond oil.
Step4
Add the essential oils while the balm is still warm, and blend them in thoroughly.
Step5
Put the warm antiseptic beeswax balm into clean metal tins or salve jars and store it in a dark, cool place.

Tips & Warnings

  • Never attempt to melt beeswax in a microwave oven. If you don't have a double boiler, melt it in a small container placed in a larger container of hot water.
