Learning to do an elbow drop throw on an unsuspecting attacker can save your life. This aikido technique is one of many marital arts moves which rely on throws, locks and other restraining techniques for protection. Aikido is not an aggressive fight form, but rather defensive in nature. Learning to do an aikido elbow drop throw can be challenging, and it takes practice to perfect.

Difficulty: Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Stretch your muscles completely before you begin to do an aikido elbow drop throw. This will help to prevent injury.

  2. Step 2

Meet your attacker head on with confidence. For instance, suppose your attacker comes at you in an attempt to punch you.

  3. Step 3

Move quickly to get behind your attacker. This will put you in control, catching your attacker by surprise so you can throw him off balance by maintaining an offensive fight style to avoid harm from his strikes.

  4. Step 4

Grab the hand your attacker is using to strike you at the wrist, and then twist his arm up and around, pinning it behind his back. For instance, assume your attacker now turns to punch toward your head. Immediately drop quickly toward the ground. Avoid the punch and grab his elbow, applying steady pressure inside of the elbow before you throw your attacker to the ground.
