How to Do an Aikido Bent Arm Lock

Aikido is a non-aggressive martial art that uses throws and locks to protect you from an attacker. Learning different moves like how to do an aikido bent arm lock can help you fight off an attacker defensively. Knowing how to do an aikido bent arm lock can help you protect yourself while sticking to aikido principles.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Make sure to warm up by stretching before you do an aikido bent arm technique. This will insure that you do not experience an injury since many of these moves require flexible movement.

  2. Step 2

    Grab your attacker's arm from behind and apply pressure at the elbow as he resists. This is an arm lock. Hold your attacker in an arm-lock position with his arm behind his back and force him to fall to the ground.

  3. Step 3

    Use your attacker's strength against her by keeping your feet planted to the ground. Maintain a position of offense by dodging her attacks to force her off balance. This puts you in control of the situation allowing you to hold off your attacker.

Tips & Warnings
  • The principle of aikido is not to fight by using force. The bent arm lock is one of many moves which uses your opponent's balance against him.
