How to Practice Football Techniques
Football skills and techniques are mistakenly thought to be the same by many people. Before you begin practicing football techniques, be aware of the differences. Skill is how well a player performs during games and practices. Technique is how well a player performs football fundamentals like defense, passing or kicking. It's important to smoothly and efficiently execute a variety of techniques if you want to be a good football player.

Warm up your muscles before every practice session so that you don't injure yourself. Clear your mind and concentrate only on loosening everything up and preparing for the football practice.

Practice visualization just before you're about to complete a technique. Use your imagination to see yourself practicing a specific football technique before you do it. By going through what you need to do in your mind, you make completing the actual football technique familiar and comfortable.

To practice the football technique of throwing, firmly plant your feet at hip-width apart, hold the ball lightly with your fingers across the laces and your thumb and forefinger cradling the tail of the ball. Then throw the ball, beginning the motion at your hips and moving it through your torso to your arm. Let go with your thumb, and let the ball roll from your fingers.

Improve your grip on the ball by practicing releasing and grabbing. You can practice this skill on your own by tossing the ball up in the air, or by throwing it between two players.

Perfect the accuracy of your throw by standing 12 to 15 yards from the goal post, Throw the ball as described in Step 3 and try to hit the goal posts as many times as possible in a row during a set amount of time.

Practicing football techniques when you're tired is one of the better things you can do for your skill level and form. It's the best time to train your mind to do what it should do, even if your body is objecting.
