Use angles to close the distance on an opponent and give yourself the advantage.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • Training partner.
Step1
Have your Training partner face you.
You are at your safe distance, (the length of your opponents leg plus about 6 inches.)
Step2
Have your partner throw a straight punch or kick at your center line,
(the middle of you body), high or low it doesn't make a difference.
Step3
In this instance you are going to move on 45 degree angles, picture a
triangle. You are on the tip your partner is on the base.
Step4
As your he begins to step forward to deliver the strike, you step to the right or left on that 45 degree angle. This moves the target (you)
and puts you up by his elbow or close to him on one side.
Step5
By doing this you are keeping yourself safe and neutralizing
your opponents strike. This also gives you the advantage as you can
strike and gives your opponent no chance to react.
Step6
Practice this movement over and over until it becomes second
nature. This works for any strike that comes at you on a straight line.

Tips & Warnings

  • A good way to practice this is to put a triangle on the floor with tape.
  • Now you can see the angles to move on.
  • Try and come up with different strikes you can use from the position you find
  • yourself in after stepping on the angles.
  • Don't practice too fast at first.
