Find the right time. If you have been with your mate any amount of time, then you know their most stressful time of the day. You also know the time of the day when they are most relaxed. Save your question for the times when they will be most receptive.

Get them in a good mood: If you need to ask a question and you don’t have time to wait for the right moment, then do some things to get them in a good mood. Don’t be obvious about it though. Just be considerate and thoughtful and do something special for them before hitting them with a question that they may not like. At least this way they will know that you are coming from a loving place.

Consider how you would feel if the question was asked of you. Are you going to ask an accusatory question? Perhaps you are going to ask your mate to do something difficult or unpleasant. If so, first consider how you would feel if the same thing were asked of you. This will prepare you for their reaction.

Have your question formulated. Take the time to formulate the question in your mind. In addition to knowing exactly what you are going to say and how you will say it, you also need to consider in what direction the conversation might go and how you will deal with what could be a difficult conversation.

Just ask the question already! Procrastination will only make matters worse. Don’t live with a difficult question for a long period of time. This will only make the inevitable question harder. Just prepare yourself and your mate for the conversation, and get it over with.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you have a question to ask, it is best to just get it off your chest. Don't procrastinate
