Doing a two-foot spin can seem daunting at first, especially when you're still a little wobbly on ice skates. Once you're feeling pretty confident about keeping your balance on ice, though, this is a simple and fun trick you can use to impress your friends. Plus, as you get better, you can tweak it to make it look even cooler.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

    Beginner

  1. Step 1

Start in pivot position. Your right foot should be in front of you, your left foot pointed outward with only the toes touching the ice, your right arm by your side and your left arm extended in the same direction as your left toes.

  2. Step 2

Extend both your right and left arms as you bring your right foot counter clockwise.

  3. Step 3

Spin twice, keeping your arms extended, then bring your arms in and cross them. Bring your legs closer together, too. This makes you spin even faster.

  4. Step 4

Hold your arms straight out when you're finished.

  5. Intermediate

  6. Step 1

Set your left toe pick on the ice. Straighten your right arm out in front of you and straighten your left arm toward the ground so that, while spinning, your right arm traces the circle and your left arm points at the middle.

  7. Step 2

Bend your left arm inward, and hold the side of the hand against your chest. At the same time, move your right arm outward. This helps you to gain the speed needed for the spin.

  8. Step 3

Do a one-foot forward swizzle with your right foot, then wind and spin.

  9. Step 4

Pull your arms in and cross them. After the spin, hold your arms out and end your spin with your left leg held out behind you and with a straight back.

  10. Advanced

  11. Step 1

Start with a backward crossover, then begin to do another. This time, though, keep your leg crossed behind rather than stepping.

  12. Step 2

Hold your leg there for a few seconds, then step into your circle. Your right leg should be behind you.

  13. Step 3

Lower your left leg and begin your spin. Exit the spin the same way you did for the intermediate two-foot spin.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure that your body is very straight while you're doing the two-foot spin, as though there is a string attached to your head pulling you up.
  • Don't drop your shoulder or look down. These common mistakes can throw off your center of gravity, which then can throw off your spin.
