Learning how to complete wheelchair based tricks is a test of skill, patience and strength. Once in the trick position, it can be awkward to get the wheelchair back to the ground as a beginner. Below are a few tips for lowering a wheelchair back to the ground after performing a trick such as rocking or spinning in the wheelchair

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Begin by balancing the wheelchair on the back wheels and holding the position. This means pushing forward on the wheels with your gloved hands as you step off the footrest with your left foot and use it as a pivot.

  2. Step 2

Rock the chair gently back and forth with your hands to hold the position until the next step. This means pushing forward slightly with one hand on one wheel and pushing backwards with the other hand on the other wheel in a balanced fashion to hold the wheelchair in place.

  3. Step 3

Realize that if you pull forward on the wheelchair wheels too far, you go backwards and vice versa. This is key to understanding how to get up and down from wheelchair positions.

  4. Step 4

Drop the front wheels back to the ground by pushing backwards simultaneously on both wheel with your hands. The wheelchair should drop forward lowering the front wheels to the ground. Until you get the hang of this move, the landing may be a little rough.

  5. Step 5

Practice getting into and out of a wheelchair trick position (suspended on back wheels) until you can complete both acts smoothly and without banging onto the floor.
