Things You'll Need:
- Clay in different colors
- Rolling pin
- Toothpick
-
Step 1
Pick the colors for your clay bowl base. If you made your clay bowl from cut canes with many colors, pick one or two colors that match the canes. To contrast the base and the bowl, pick bright colors that don't match the bowl.
-
Step 2
Roll out one of the colors with a small rolling pin. Make it the same size, or slightly larger, than the bottom of the bowl.
-
Step 3
Take another color of clay and roll it into a coil long enough to wrap around the flattened base. If you want your bowl to stand up high, roll out two to three coils.
-
Step 4
Wrap the coil or coils around the edge of the flattened base. Score some "X" shapes around the top coil with a toothpick and attach it to the bottom of the clay bowl. Check the bowl for stability.
-
Step 5
Keep working on the base if the bowl isn't stable. The bowl must be completely stable before you bake it. The clay won't spread when baking, so if the bowl is unstable before baking, it will be unstable after baking.
