You can use black picture frames for any type of decor, but you can dress them up a little and add sophistication by combining black frames with gold accents. Use these frames with many types of photographs and paintings in a variety of settings.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Choose between traditional and modern style frames. For an eclectic look, combine a modern black frame molding with a traditional gold rope lined molding to create a one-of-a-kind frame that will go with almost anything.

  2. Step 2

Measure your picture or document so you'll have the item's accurate size for choosing your frame. Leave room in your measurements for matting or odd-shaped artwork.

  3. Step 3

Find black frames with creatively designed gold accents. Choose frames with a hint of gold or a thick molding of gold leaf or flower prints--each has a distinct look.

  4. Step 4

Play around with the frame thickness and physical size. Choose a large black frame with gold accents on either side of the molding for a large piece of art on an otherwise empty wall. Thinner frames work better for smaller sizes or clusters of photos.

  5. Step 5

Use a variety of photos and artwork with your black and gold frames. Consider document frames for diplomas and certificates, thin gold accents for wedding photos and thick bands of gold for traditional old-fashioned paintings and pictures.

Tips & Warnings
  • Speak with a professional frame expert about customizing your black and gold frame. Take your pictures in and look at them next to each frame molding to decide which works best.
