Building a kaleidoscope is a great project to do with your kids or friends, and it teaches them about light refraction. After making your cut glass triangle, you'll be ready to cut a kaleidoscope tube. This is the tube you'll look into when you use your kaleidoscope.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Cut glass triangle
  • Kaleidoscope tube
  • Utility knife
  • Fine grit sandpaper
  1. Step 1

Gather the materials for your kaleidoscope tube. You'll need your cut glass triangle and a mail tube, cardboard tube or PVC pipe.

  2. Step 2

Hold your cut glass triangle up to the tubing and place a mark a couple of inches longer than the triangle.

  3. Step 3

Turn the tube and mark each of the other sides a couple of inches longer than the triangle. If you'd like, you can connect the marks to form a cut guideline on your kaleidoscope tube.

  4. Step 4

Cut through the tube with an utility knife or saw. Depending on the type of tube you use, you may need heavy equipment to cut it, or just a pair of scissors.

  5. Step 5

Sand the edge of your kaleidoscope tube with a fine grit sandpaper to remove any jagged edges.
