How to Change Positions for Foot Massages

You can use your thumbs, palms, elbows, hands and fingers when giving a foot massage. However,your position is very important for the technique and comfort level. In particular, when you want to use your elbow, you can do so from two different positions—facing the person's foot or with your back to the person's foot.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Towel
  • Lotion
  1. Step 1

    Use your elbow to massage the ball of the foot and toes while sitting and facing your back to the person's foot. Rest the receiver's foot on your knee, supporting it with the other hand.

  2. Step 2

    Slide your elbow back and forth across the ball. Dig your elbow under the toes one by one. Twist your elbow to apply more pressure to certain spots.

  3. Step 3

    Switch positions so that you're looking at the foot in order to massage the heel with your elbow. Stabilize the person's foot on your knee or the top of your thighs. Use your other hand to help steady the foot.

  4. Step 4

    Apply pressure with your elbow to circle the heel. Push hard along the inner and outer arches toward the heel to release tension. Repeat method on the person's other foot.

Tips & Warnings
  • In this technique, avoid using your fingers. Don't use a fast motion with your elbow.
