If you like Indian dishes, then you will love making Indian Pilau rice. It can be a tasty addition to any Indian meat or vegetable dish and also takes away some of the spice in the dishes if they are too hot. The rice absorbs the flavor of the dish.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Place your Indian pilau rice in a large pot with some water and steam the rice for about 15 minutes or until done. Make sure you have oven gloves or mitts to be able to lift this pot off of the stove when it is completely done.

  2. Step 2

Take the pot of pilau rice off of the stove when done and place it on a wooden surface or hard surface that cannot be damaged by the heat. Use your oven gloves when you lift the pot over to the other surface.

  3. Step 3

Using your oven glove, lift the lid off of the pot and allow all of the steam to leave the pot. Take in the aroma of the pilau rice. If you made it with green peas, then it will be even more flavorful.

  4. Step 4

Take a wooden spoon and stir the pilau rice around in the pot so all the steam escapes. If you cooked the pilau rice correctly, then the rice grains should be separate and not stuck together in clumps. Also, the rice shouldn't be burnt to the bottom of the pan.

  5. Step 5

Get a metal spoon and scoop a good rounded portion into a serving dish that is big enough for at least two people. Make the pilau rice into a rounded mountain by using your spoon to make it tidy. Add some coriander to the top of the mound and it is ready to serve.

Tips & Warnings
  • Remove any whole spices (cinnamon sticks or bay leaves) before eating. Whole spices are added for flavor, but they are not to be eaten.
