How to Make a Clasp From a Safety Pin
Jewelry can be made from just about anything. Look for small metal and plastic items that can be used for a charm bracelet or necklace. Use a safety pin for the clasp to make the entire piece out of recycled materials. Using recycled materials to make jewelry gives you one of a kind results each time.

1
Use heavy duty wire cutters to trim the bottom loop off of the safety pin. Hold the clasp of the safety pin in one hand, and then cut off the bottom loop. Discard the top piece of the pin, or use it as part of the jewelry.
-
2
Grasp the loop with a pair of small pliers. Point the sharp edges away from you for sanding. Use a drummel with a sanding bit to sand the two points until they are smooth.

3
Attach the loop to the jewelry wire using crimping beads or by tying the wire with a surgeons knot to keep it secure. Add the remaining items to the necklace or bracelet.
-
4
Separate the wires in the loop with a thin, sharp item, such as a screwdriver. Place the loop on a work surface with the points facing up. Insert the screwdriver between the points to make a small separation in the loop.
-
5
Attach a standard clasp to the other end of the jewelry wire with crimping beads, or tie a knot to use as the clasp. Tie a small slip knot in the end of the wire. Secure the knot by pulling it tight.
-
6
Close the necklace, or bracelet, by slipping the knot between the open ends in the loop. Pull tightly to get the knot in. Make the space in the loop bigger if the knot will go in, or make it smaller, by closing it with pliers, if the gap is too large.
