Instructions
-
Curling iron
-
1
Choose a small to medium barrel curling iron. A curling iron should be able to wrap around the hair shaft at least two times. If your hair is too short to wrap around the curling iron, you can still curl it, but it may only give you bend.
-
2
Start in the front of the head, taking sections 1/2 to 1 inch wide based on the desired curl size. If you have very short hair, you'll need to take smaller sections. Your sections should never be bigger than the barrel of your curling iron.
-
-
3
Curl the entire head.
-
4
Brush out or loosen the curls with your fingers. Brushing it will relax the curls more, where loosening them with your fingers will just separate the curls.
-
5
Apply any desired finishing product, such as hairspray or shine drops.
Hot curlers
-
6
Turn on the hot curlers in advance so they have time to heat up. Short hair will require small hot curlers. If the curlers are too big for your hair length, they will fall out before your hair is done.
-
7
Take sections the same width as the hot curlers you are using.
-
8
Roll the hot curlers into the hair starting at ends. For more body, direct the hair forward before you begin to roll.
-
9
Place the curlers in the rest of your hair.
-
10
Allow curlers to cool. If you take the curlers out too soon your hair won't hold the curl.
-
11
Remove the curlers and style.
Blow dryer
-
12
Wrap a small metal round brush around a 1/2- to 1-inch section. The smaller the brush, the more curl you will achieve.
-
13
Hold the blow dryer at an angle toward the brush, and gently spin the round brush in place until the section is dry. Make sure the ends are wrapped around the brush. Straight, short hair can be difficult to mold, but with enough heat you should be fine.
-
14
Take the blow dryer away and allow the hair to cool around the brush for about 30 seconds. This will set the curl.
-
15
Remove brush and continue until all the hair is dry.

Tips & Warnings
If you choose to put product in your hair before curling it, it may smoke when the heat is applied. Don't worry. It's the product smoking, not your hair.
Sections that are too big will result in uneven curls, so take extra time and appropriate size sections. It will save you time in the long run.
Be careful when using a curling iron on short hair. You don't want the curling iron too close to your fingers or scalp.
Point the blow dryer at an angle away from the scalp. If you hold the blow dryer directly at your scalp, it will burn you before your hair is dry.
