Curly hair is difficult to style. Because of this, special attention has to be paid to the angles of the cuts. Curly hair styles are more prone to the quirks of weather and the idiosyncrasies of an individual's unique hair characteristics. The angle of the cut must be checked often during a curly hair styling.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Start by checking the back first. Lift the hair with the styling comb and let it fall back naturally. Look for loose strands that are longer than the rest of the hair.

  2. Step 2

Cut any stray strands of hair along the neck and around the ears. Step slightly to the side and eyeball the hair length. Look for consistent shape also, as curly hair has a tendency toward frizzing.

  3. Step 3

Turn the person around so that you are cutting towards the mirror. The mirror is used to show you how the customer will look to others. Don't be afraid to turn the customer's head with your hands to get the correct angle if needed, as it is important to see the hair properly.

  4. Step 4

Pin the hair back in order to position it to achieve the right angle. The pins will capture the unruly curly hair and make it easier to do the angles of the final cuts correctly.

  5. Step 5

Turn the customer's head back to the proper location to insure the final cuts are made at the right angles. Walk around slowly and examine the curly hair from all angles before finishing.
