When cutting curly hair, special attention must be paid to the front. The front is the focus of any hairstyle and with curly hair the front of the hairstyle must be angled to heighten the impact of curly hair and the shape of the face.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Layer the hairstyle. Layering curly hair increases the overall stylistic texture of the hairstyle with the layers increasing the surface volume of curly hair.

  2. Step 2

Angle the hair towards the front. To counteract curly hair's tendency to frizz and puff out, the layers need to be angled in decreasing steepness closer to the front. This method uses the mass of the hair to hold the hairstyle in place.

  3. Step 3

Look at the curly hair from the sides. Do not rely exclusively on a front view. The sides need to angled towards the ears or swept back above the ears.

  4. Step 4

Move the client's head slightly to one side. This can create another angle which adds an additional dimension to the hairstyle.

  5. Step 5

Finish angling the front of curly hair by moving in close and cutting a subtle line underneath the outermost layer of curly hair. This will use the natural waviness of curly hair to hold in it place along the brow.
