Poser is a 3D Figure Design and Animation software program. Although most third party models come with texture maps, there are many mapless free or low cost models available. Using the UV Mapper, artists can create texture maps for any Poser prop.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • UV Mapper Classic
  1. Step 1

Prepare to export your model from Poser. The model can be any character, clothing or prop in your Poser Library. Choose "export" and "Wavefront OBJ" from the File menu. Check "single frame" and Click "OK" on the Export Range Window.

  2. Step 2

Select each object in the Select Objects pop up window that you want to export. Click "OK." Check to make sure that you include "weld body parts seams" and "include body parts names." Click "OK." The prop exports to your computer.

  3. Step 3

Open the UV Mapper and load your "OBJ" file. Choose "new UV map" and "planar" from the Edit menu. Select "Z-axis," "horizontal orientation," "1024 map size" (increase this for a higher resolution texture map), "split by orientation," "gaps in map" and click "OK."

  4. Step 4

Choose "settings," "color by groups" and "OK" from the Edit menu. Choose "select by group," head: 2" and "OK" from the Edit menu. Use "shift+right arrow" to move the head over. Then click "select by material," "skin" and "OK" from the Edit menu. Move the selection down with the "shift+down arrow" to move image down. Hit "Enter" to save your work.

  5. Step 5

Left mouse click and drag over the face. Select "new UV map" and "spherical" from the Edit menu. Enter "Y-axis alignment," "-0.15 Z offset," "1024 map size," "gaps in map," "spread facets at poles" and "OK." Move the new map to the lower left hand corner of the screen.

  6. Step 6

Choose "settings," "color by materials," "OK" and "select by materials" from the Edit menu. Hold the CTRL key and select the eye, eyebrows, iris, lashes and pupils. Select "new UV map," "planar," "don't split" and "OK" from the Edit menu. Resize and move each item to the texture map's left side. Repeat this step for the mouth, hands, fingers and feet.

  7. Step 7

Evenly space the body parts on the texture map. Choose "settings" and "black and white" from the Edit menu. Save as a different OBJ file. This preserves your original OBJ file. Export the texture map.
