Understanding how to jack up and lower a jacked up truck are both important applications to know when performing do-it-yourself auto repair. Properly jacking up and lowering a vehicle are both important to your safety, the safety of others and the well-being of your truck.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Notice where your jack stands are located. You want to make sure you don't bump them when placing the jack back underneath the truck. Slide the jack under the truck and underneath the lower control arm. This is the best place from which to jack up and lower a vehicle.

  2. Step 2

Tighten the release screw to ensure the jack will work. Either use your hand on the jack lever or the handle inserted into the jack lever to raise the head of the jack up to the bottom of the lower control arm. Once it is flush against the lower control arm, use the handle in the jack lever to raise the vehicle.

  3. Step 3

Watch the jack stands, so you will know when the vehicle is up off of the receiving cups of the jack stands. Once it is, remove the jack stands from underneath the vehicle. Turn the release screw to release the energy from the hydraulic floor jack and lower the truck back onto the ground.

  4. Step 4

Practice lowering the truck from the jack safety to prevent both damage to your truck and injury to yourself or others.

Tips & Warnings
