The ball joints in your truck are vital to the function and life of your vehicle. Since they are part of the front end, they effect the steering, the life of your tires and your alignment. Knowing how to replace them and understanding the processes along the way can save you time, money and extend the life of your truck.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Locate your control arm bolt. This will be accessible after the truck is secured on a set of jack stands, the wheel is removed and the control arm bolt is just off to the right of the hub.

  2. Step 2

Use the permanent marker to mark on the control arm bolt itself, then mark a position on the vehicle. Try to make the marks as close together as possible and mark both of them perpendicular. This will make it easier to line them up when you re-install the control arm bolt.

  3. Step 3

Remove the control arm bolt and continue on with the process of the disassembly of the front end to replace the upper and lower ball joints of your truck.

  4. Step 4

Consult your truck's repair manual if you come across any difficulties along the way. Indexing the control arm bolt is an easy application to carry out, but if you are lacking confidence at all, consult with a guide or professional mechanic.
