Practice is the most important thing a racer can do in any racing sport, including the NHRA. This gives you the chance to get accustomed to the seat, get a feel for the track and more importantly, get a feel for your car. If you're a racer who wants to spend time in an NHRA car, start following the sport and ask for help.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy
Step1
Practice at home on your computer, using a racing simulator. These games are set up just like a car at the track and require you to use the same motions.
Step2
Use your own car to practice at home. Close your eyes and go through the motions just as you would if you were on the track.
Step3
Make friends in the NHRA world and ask for the chance to drive their car a few times or even just sit in it for a few minutes. If you have some experience, they might agree.
Step4
Ask NHRA racers if you can practice in their car, even if it's only for a few minutes. As long as you don't do any damage, many drivers are agreeable.
Step5
Join a professional racing school. Racing schools use actual cars that were retired from the sport, which means you can use the real equipment.
Step6
Take advanced classes from a racing school once you have a little more experience. Not only do you get more seat time, but you learn more as well.
Step7
Purchase a practice tree and foot pedal to practice your driving at home. These fully developed systems teach you everything you need to know about driving an NHRA dragster and are highly realistic.

Tips & Warnings

  • Visualization is the key to a racer's success. Visualize yourself driving in the car whenever possible.
