Removing a jack stand from underneath your vehicle is a basic auto mechanical skill everyone should have. It is not difficult, though it does require a certain level of safety to keep all those involved from getting injured. The following steps will guide you through this simple process.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Notice where the jack stands are located underneath the vehicle. You want to take care when sliding the floor jack under the vehicle to avoid hitting the jack stands and causing the vehicle to fall and cause injury to you or those around you. Have another person act as a spotter on the opposite side of the vehicle from you.

  2. Step 2

Slide the floor jack under the vehicle and underneath the control arm. Use your hand to pump the floor jack up until it sits against the control arm. Insert the handle into the lever and pump it until the vehicle raises off the jack stands.

  3. Step 3

Remove the jack stands from underneath the vehicle and set them out of the way. Make sure no other tools, parts, pets, or people are anywhere near the vehicle. Be careful not to hit the floor jack with the jack stands on the way out.

  4. Step 4

Turn the release screw to lower the vehicle to the ground. This will automatically happen slowly. Be careful not to move the floor jack before the vehicle is resting completely on the ground, or you could cause injury or damage to the vehicle.
