One way to protect and reinforce the strength of your clay sculptures is to paint them using enamel spray paint. Clear coat enamel paint allows you to quickly and easily prepare your sculpture for further painting or any other work that you may decide it needs.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Lazy susan
  • Clay sculpture
  • Scrap cardboard
  • Clear coat enamel paint
  1. Step 1

Place your completed clay sculpture on a lazy susan so that you can easily turn it while you are working.

  2. Step 2

Take out your cardboard and spray some clear enamel in the corner. Spray until the nozzle sprays smoothly and cleanly.

  3. Step 3

Spray the model using smooth up and down strokes. Keep a steady pace so that you cover the sculpture evenly.

  4. Step 4

Tilt the spay nozzle of your enamel can so that you can get under any edges and overhangs. Ensure that every inch of your sculpture is covered with clear coat enamel.

  5. Step 5

Wait until the enamel dries before continuing any other work on your sculpture. Once your enamel dries, look over it carefully. If you have any missed spots, spray them again with your clear enamel.

Tips & Warnings
  • Testing the spray of your clear coat enamel paint ensures that you won't get a globular spray when painting your sculpture.
  • The fumes given off by spray paint can be toxic. Only use spray paint in a well-ventilated area, preferably outside, in a wind-free location.
  • There are many types of clear epoxy enamel paint. Use a high quality enamel, whenever you are working on clay sculpture products. You will have better finished results.
