Circuit bending is a popular hobby that involves short-circuiting, or bending, the circuits on a circuit board of an electronic toy or instrument. You can also add new switches and connections to the toys to help you make these new sounds.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Push button switch
  • Drill
  • Drill bits
  • Batteries
  • Jewelers screwdrivers
  1. Step 1

Decide on the electronic toy are going to use for your circuit bending project, then set up your workspace with a heat-resistant workspace and the tools you will need for the project. This should include a push button switch, drill, assortment of drill bits, batteries, and jewelers screwdrivers.

  2. Step 2

Use the screwdrivers to change the batteries and insert a fresh set of batteries. Use the screwdrivers to open the back of the toy and carefully lift off the cover. It may be connected to the front of the toy with wiring that runs to the speaker or battery pack, which may be located on the back portion of the casing. Be careful not to damage this wiring.

  3. Step 3

Pick a spot on the toy to install the push button. This should be somewhere open on the front and open enough on the inside of the casing to avoid damage when drilling a pilot hole. Find a drill bit large enough for the button to fit through and small enough to keep the back of the button securely in the casing.

  4. Step 4

Drill a hole through the spot you choose and place the push button switch through the hole from the front. Place the washer over it and the screw the nut onto the threads on the back of the button to hold it in place. The washer and nut should have come with the push button switch.
