The cross fade button or switch is located right on your mixer. This little switch allows you to effortlessly flip between the records playing on your turntables and to bring up one record while letting the other fade away. Before you start playing in front of crowds you need to practice and learn how the cross fader works.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Practice switching back and forth between two turntables before playing in front of crowds. This will help you prepare for shows and gain experience with using the equipment beforehand.

  2. Step 2

Move the cross fader all the way to the left to play only the left record. If you move the cross fader to the right, you'll play the record on the right turntable.

  3. Step 3

Play both songs by moving the fader into the exact middle of the mixer. Look for the large slash that indicates the middle of the mixer.

  4. Step 4

Transition from one song to the other by slowly moving the cross fader to the other side. By doing this towards the end of the first song, you can easily switch records out and bring in new music.

  5. Step 5

Move the cross fader quickly to the other side if one record starts skipping or you experience any problems with a record. It immediately causes your second record to play without any delays.

  6. Step 6

Slide the cross fader quickly back and forth between both sides to switch between both songs and give the crowd something unexpected. You can play a few seconds of one song than switch to the other song and back again.

Tips & Warnings
  • Any time the cross fader isn't as far to one side as it can get, you'll play both records at the same time. Your audience will only hear small snippets of the second song.
