DJ's know the importance of a mixer. This little piece of equipment is a major part of any setup and has everything you need to control the sound and levels of the music. The mixer allows you to switch easily between the different records. Before using the mixer, though, you need to set it up.

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Place the mixer in the middle of the table or area where your equipment will be. Since the mixer is the central hub and the piece that everything else connects to, it needs to be in an easy-to-reach location.

  2. Step 2

Connect the cables from your turntable to the outputs on the mixer. In general, the white cable goes into the left output and the red cable goes in the right output.

  3. Step 3

Attach the cables from the amp to the mixer using the appropriate cables. If you're just starting out in the DJ world, you might want to practice the sound by connecting the mixer to a regular radio instead of an amp.

  4. Step 4

Add speakers to your setup by connecting the correct cables in to the amp. This lets the music come through and gives the crowd a way to hear the music.

  5. Step 5

Plug your headphones into the front of the mixer to ensure that you can hear everything before the music starts. Your headphones should be in excellent working condition and have some noise reducing features so you can hear the music and not the crowd.

  6. Step 6

Move the cross fader button to adjust the music the crowd hears. When you move the button all the way to the left, the crowd hears the record on the left turntable and if you move the button to the right, they hear the right disc.

  7. Step 7

Adjust the frequency to an appropriate level for the crowd. You can test the frequency on the crowd and adjust to find the right level for the situation.
