Planting bulbs of Canna Princess Di is a great way to add vibrant colors and attractive foliage to your flower bed or border. Canna bulbs also make excellent container or water garden plants. The dramatic, long blooming flowers begin in July and continue through October. Be aware that Canna bulbs need to be lifted in the fall in cold areas and stored where temperatures are above freezing for the winter.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Canna Princess Di Bulbs
  • Shovel
  • Soil amendments and fertilizers
  1. Step 1

Remove each individual Canna Princess Di bulb from the package immediately. Separate each bulb, count the number of Canna bulbs, then set them aside in a shaded area where they will not be disturbed while you prepare the planting holes.

  2. Step 2

Turn the soil in the area where you plan to plant the Canna bulbs and add any needed soil amendments. Once the soil is ready, dig holes that are 4 inches deep with a bulb digger or small gardening hand tool. Add bulb fertilizer to the bottom of the hole and mix it into the dirt so it's not touching the Canna bulbs.

  3. Step 3

Plant the Canna bulbs in the pre-dug holes, roots down, growing tip or bulb neck up. Carefully cover them to the base of the bulb with dirt so you don't break off the growing tip.

  4. Step 4

Place labels above the bulbs so you don't forget where you planted them, and water well. Water weekly during the spring and summer if there is less than 1 inch of rain unless they are being grown in a water garden.
