Microwave ovens are a nice thing to have in any kitchen. They are very practical for heating up food quickly and safely. Some microwaves are designed to sit on the countertop and others are built into the stove. If your microwave is built into the stove, you will need to clean the microwave traps.

From Quick Guide: Microwave Cleaning 101
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A cup or bucket of hot water
  • Dishwashing liquid
  • A clean sponge
  1. Step 1

Pour some dishwashing liquid into the cup (or bucket) of hot water. Just a few drops of dishwashing liquid will be fine.

  2. Step 2

Wet the clean sponge by dipping it into the cup (or bucket) of hot water. Ring out the excess water.

  3. Step 3

Locate and slide the first microwave trap out. It should slide out very easily.

  4. Step 4

Wipe the microwave trap with the wet, soapy sponge. Make sure you get into every crack. The main idea is to allow air to pass through the microwave trap. If you cook with grease, your traps will be dirtier. Make sure you get all of the grease off of the trap. If there is a lot of grease on the trap, you may want to soak it in warm, soapy water before wiping it.

  5. Step 5

Allow the trap to air dry and replace it back into its place when you are done.

  6. Step 6

Slide out the other microwave trap and repeat the above steps to properly clean it.

Tips & Warnings
  • Clean your microwave traps at least once per month.
