When making holiday ornaments or saving them after the holidays have passed, keep the ornaments from becoming wrinkled or ugly. If making a paper angel, start with a clean, flat material as a base to your creation. If saving a paper or doily angel that has been used for decoration, flatten it carefully for use next year. Here are some steps for successful angel flattening.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Flat surface
  • Felt
  • Heavy object like a vase
Step1
Remove any fasteners such as paper clips, brads, or staples from the angel carefully.
Step2
Unfold any bent parts of the angel that are not part of the design. Be careful not to rip the angel while you are unfolding the edges.
Step3
Place the angel in a pan of water if there are no decorations on it made by materials such as ink that could run and ruin the angel's appearance. Remove promptly as soon as the angel has been completely immersed.
Step4
Lay the angel on a clean, flat surface that is not needed for at least a day.
Step5
Put a piece of clean, slightly damp felt over the angel to protect the angel from any rips or tears. Use dry felt if there is ink or some other material that may run on the angel.
Step6
Lay a heavy object like an empty vase on top of the felt. You should find an object that is flat on the bottom surface and that is large enough to cover the entire angel.
Step7
Allow the heavy object to remain in place overnight. If the angel is not sufficiently flattened by morning, keep the angel under the weight of the object until it is completely flattened.
