Larger RC cars are usually used for racing, but smaller cars such as the 1/15 scale are perfect for beginners. These cars are capable of some quick speeds yet they require less maintenance and usually run on battery power. Since this is a serious investment though, you need to do your research before making a purchase. That means looking at different cars and visiting as many shops as possible.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

Decide on your budget before heading off to shop. Many people prefer the 1:15 scale because they're less expensive than some of the other scales out there.

  2. Step 2

Look for a kit that includes everything you'll need. The majority of hobby stores sell kits that include the battery and charger, which makes it better for beginners.

  3. Step 3

Ask for help from a more seasoned driver on what cars are the most dependable and durable. You'll want a car that's capable of racing more than a few times.

  4. Step 4

Visit your local hobby store to get an idea of the different cars available. You can get a feel for the different styles, paint schemes and bodies they make.

  5. Step 5

Make a list of any questions you have and ask employees or owners of the store for help. You'll find it helpful to ask questions before making a purchase.

  6. Step 6

Shop online if there aren't any hobby or specialty stores in your area. There are a number of shops that sell these cars; all you need to do is look.

  7. Step 7

Try out a few different cars before buying. You can ask those with cars to let you try it out by letting them know that you're thinking of buying one yourself.
