Spinning rings on your fingers is a simple and effective juggling technique. While it can create interesting optical illusions, it is also the foundation for more complicated ring juggling tricks. While beginning with one ring is relatively simple, adding multiple rings to your trick requires a great deal of hand-eye coordination, but gives stunning results.

Things You'll Need:

  • Juggling rings
  1. Step 1

Use one ring at first. This gives you some familiarity with its weight and dynamics while spinning. Facing the ring vertically before you, give it a fast, hard snap as if you were throwing it into the air. Before releasing the ring, slide your index finger through the large center opening passed your second knuckle. Keep your finger close to the inside ring to keep it from flying off. The ring should swiftly spin around the finger.

  2. Step 2

Stop the ring by clamping your palm around the ring while it is in mid-spin. Start and stop the ring at different intervals, letting the ring spin multiple times.

  3. Step 3

Challenge yourself to keep the ring spinning forever by constantly moving your wrist with the ring, giving it more momentum. Being able to spin the rings without stopping can come in handy once you perform more complicated tricks.

  4. Step 4

Repeat Steps 1, 2 and 3 with your other hand until that hand is also comfortable with the challenges of spinning a ring.

  5. Step 5

Combine your right and left hand by spinning both rings at the same time. Change their direction and alternate stopping them. For a real challenge, spin one clockwise and the other counterclockwise. This produces an optical illusion effect for viewers.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you are performing ring tricks for an audience, position yourself so they are watching your right or left side.
