Although bowling is not a rough sport, or even a contact sport for that matter, players who bowl face their share of painful injuries. Tendonitis is a common concern for many bowlers, and the pain that is associated with it can be tremendous. Repetetive motion and the act of throwing a 16 pound ball down an alley subsequent times places tremendous stress on your muscles and joints. Here are preventative measures that can be taken to lessen the chances of suffering such an injury.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Properly fitted, and weighted bowling ball
  1. Step 1

Consider the fit of the ball that you use. Make sure that the finger span is comfortable and not too stretched. If there is any discomfort at all when releasing the bowling ball, you will need to have it resized. The consequence of not using a properly sized bowling ball will be painful joint pain in the fingers and palms.

  2. Step 2

Make sure you are using a bowling ball that is not too heavy. A ball that weighs more than necessary will add undue stress on the muscles and tendons. Injury can occur to the wrists, elbow, forearm or shoulder.

  3. Step 3

Stretch. Before any bowling game, you should take some time to stretch. This will relieve stiffness and increase flexibility and range of motion.

  4. Step 4

Be aware of your technique while bowling. Smoothness of motion is key. Excessive twisting or exaggerated throwing can wreak havoc on your body. Try and maintain fluidity, and your tendons will thank you.
