With all the different companies doling out yellow pages these days, it seems like every time you turn around there is a new phone book at your doorstep. If you hate the thought of filing your local landfill with yet another phone book, try these ideas instead.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Step1
Use pages out of an old phone book for messy jobs such as gluing, painting or staining. Or tear them out and place lots of them under your child's high chair to catch those dinner-time messes.
Step2
Make a pinata. Phone book pages make terrific paper mache fodder.
Step3
Create a holiday decoration. By folding down the top corner of each page into the middle of the book, and then opening the book and gluing the covers together, you can create a lovely Christmas tree decoration. Spray paint all over for a great finishing touch.
Step4
Work out with them. Phone books are a great size for steps, such as you might use in step aerobics.
Step5
Sit on it. This one is probably old hat to you, but just in case you haven't done it, use an old phone book as a booster sit for a child at the kitchen table.
Step6
Keep it in the car, for those times when you need to look up a phone number or address and don't want to pay for the information phone call.

Tips & Warnings

  • Many cities will put out large recycling bins at grocery stores and other locations to collect and recycle old phone books.
