Finding a work at home job can be quite the challenge, but it can be accomplished. There are many free ways you can go about doing it. The steps in this article will show you how to find them and also how to avoid the scams along the way.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Internet access
  • An email account
  • Patience
  • True desire to work at home
  1. Step 1

Determine what type of job you are looking for and also what type you would be best suited for. This will typically depend on what skills or experience you have. There are many legitimate telecommute companies you can choose from. You can choose to telecommute in the following categories: Customer service, transcription, data entry, writing, editing, proofreading, blogging, admin assistant, and freelancing.

There are a select few that will hire you without prior experience. However, you would need to meet the companies' criteria and you may also be required to take a test.

  2. Step 2

Start by searching for work at home jobs on various work at home message forums. Join these forums and search for any information on work from home. Ask questions, try and get advice from the members of the forum. Also do a search on Google by typing in "work at home jobs" or "work from home jobs." You will get pages and pages of results.

  3. Step 3

Search for jobs in the top-rated job boards. These include:

    Careerbuilder.com
    Monster.com
    Vault.com
    Jobbank.com
    Dice.com

You can join these sites for free and then conduct the searches.

  4. Step 4

Beware of all the scam sites. The scam sites are really very easy to spot. For example: if you find a site or an ad that says "Work at home and earn $1000 weekly" this is a sure fire warning of a true scam. Another popular scam ad would be "Simple data entry from home...make $5000 monthly" Any site that promises you X amount of dollars weekly or monthly is a huge warning sign of a scam.

Also remember, a legitimate telecommute company will require a resume and an interview from you.

  5. Step 5

Refrain from paying a fee for a work at home job. The only exceptions to this rule is a headset for customer service work, a foot pedal for transcription work, and maybe a particular company will require a background check. Never pay a scam site any type of registration fees or start up fees.

  6. Step 6

Determine what your skillsets are and what you are truly interested in doing, and then take action. There are many jobs that can be performed from home successfully. It does take effort and time to do the proper searches. Apply consistently and never give up. By using the steps required, you'll be sure and find a work at home job that is best suited for you.

Tips & Warnings
  • Be patient when trying to find the right work at home job for yourself. Be consistent and keep applying.
  • Always keep your eye out for work at home scam sites. There are plenty of them out there.
