When it comes to playing basketball, accurately shooting free throws is of prime importance. It can make the difference between your team winning and losing a game. But if you want to really challenge yourself (and create havoc among your teammates), then you should try shooting a free throw with your eyes closed. Here's how.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Basketball hoop
  • Basketball
  • Free throw line or mark 15 feet from hoop
  1. Step 1

Place your dominant foot right up against the line (but not over it). Your dominant foot will be the same side of your body that you use to shoot the basketball. Then add your other foot next to it, a few inches behind the foul line.

  2. Step 2

Settle into your shooting position. For most people, this means bending at the knees and relaxing your shoulders while you dribble the basketball a couple of times in front of you to get used to the ball.

  3. Step 3

Look at the rim and imagine the basketball clearly sailing over the front of the rim and dropping in the basket. An imagery that many players use is to imagine an egg being tossed over the front rim of the basket.

  4. Step 4

Raise your hands up so that they are set to release the basketball in front of you.

  5. Step 5

Close your eyes and shoot the free throw. Just use the same repetitive motion you always do when shooting a free throw in basketball. Then open your eyes to see if you made it.

Tips & Warnings
  • It helps to shoot several free throws in a row before attempting one with your eyes closed. That way you'll get the feel and the rhythm down before the shot.
