Babywearing is a great way to bond with your baby and keep him calm and peaceful. Using a carrier like a Mai Tei is a great way to free up your hands to take care of other things, or care for other children. With a little bit of practice, you can even learn how to nurse your baby while he's in the carrier.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Get a little help. If you're new to the Mai Tei carrier, you may want to enlist the help of a friend or family member until you get the hang of things. She can help by supporting the baby a bit while you get a good latch, or simply help you retie your straps to get into a comfortable nursing position. If you're an old pro at putting your baby in the carrier, you can skip this step.

  2. Step 2

Lift your breast up to the baby. The easiest way to get the milk to the baby is to simply lift your breast up to the baby's level. This is easier for some women than others, so if it makes you uncomfortable, you can try the next step instead.

  3. Step 3

Lower the baby to the level of your breast. Support the baby with one hand, and untie and loosen the straps with the other. Retie the straps, and then assist the baby in getting a good latch.

  4. Step 4

Let the baby recline. Another way to nurse your baby in a Mai Tei carrier is to lower the shoulder strap on one side, giving the baby access to your breast. You'll need to support the baby's weight with a free hand during the nursing session, however.
