How to Test a Computer Microphone

Once you buy a microphone for your computer, you must test to make sure it works properly. Even if the microphone came with your computer, there is no guarantee that the sound quality is up to par. Test your computer microphone and obtain the best voice quality.

Instructions

1. Install the microphone by connecting it to your computer with the cable provided. Most microphones are plug and play but follow the instructions that came with your microphone.

2. Test your computer microphone by going to the start button located on your computer desktop in the lower left-hand corner of the screen. Click on start.

3. Choose "all programs" and then choose "accessories". Now choose the "entertainment" folder and choose "sound recorder" from the list. A small box will pop up on your screen with the words "sound--sound recorder" in it.

4. Look at the sound recorder. You will see a red button on the lower right hand side of the recorder box. Click on this button to begin your test.

5. Speak in a normal tone of voice. You do not have to talk directly into the microphone, just speak normally. You will know the microphone picked you up because you will see the green line inside the recorder box move and change shape.

6. Press the black button when you are through making your test. Push the two black arrows to rewind the voice track and then press play (the black arrow).

7. Listen to the voice track. If the quality is up to par, begin using your computer microphone for normal functions.
