Desktop copiers are a mainstay in offices everywhere. Copiers are sophisticated-looking, but they are fairly easy to use. Copiers come in many shapes and sizes. Typically, the copiers in your office are very large. For many private individuals, the smaller desktop copier is the tool of choice.

  1. Step 1

    Think about the primary uses of your copier. Are you going to make color copies often, or are you making black-and-white copies?

  2. Step 2

    Research the many brands of copiers on the market. Learn about the performance of the machine. Figure out the type of maintenance plan you'd like with your copier.

  3. Step 3

    Look at the space you have available for the copier. Look at machines that fit your space. Get a copier that could fit in with your work area.

  4. Step 4

    Buy toner or ink for your copier. Some copiers come with toner included, however, many do not. Find toner cartridges that are designed for your copier.

  5. Step 5

    Get paper for your copier.

    Place your new copier out of the box and into the spot you made for it. Remove all stickers in and on the copier.

  8. Step 2

    Place your paper in the appropriate compartment in your copier. This location varies by machine. Your instruction manual should include directions for this.

  9. Step 3

    Read your instructions to find where to place your ink cartridge. There may be a plastic or an aluminum strip to pull from the cartridge before installing.

  10. Step 4

    Plug in your copier at the nearest outlet. You copier may have to set up its components briefly before it is ready for use.
