How to Tell a Guy One Isn't Interested

Although it's flattering if a guy is pursuing you, it can be inconvenient and annoying if you don't feel the same way about him. Find ways to tell him you're not interested that will discourage his attention and send the message without hurting his feelings.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Have a one-on-one discussion with the guy to be upfront about your feelings. Be tactful, but also be clear that you're not interested in him romantically. Try not to give him false hope by simply blaming your disinterest on the "timing", or the fact that you're too busy.

  2. Step 2

Spend time away from him if he's been a friend up until now. Adopt a new hobby or grow closer to a different group of friends so he'll have time to move on and find someone new. Stay away from the places that you used to visit together or where you know he typically hangs out.

  3. Step 3

Delete the emails and text messages that he sends you without responding if he continues to pursue you romantically despite your talk. If all else fails, block his number and email address or ask another guy to answer your phone in an attempt to shock him.

  4. Step 4

Introduce the guy to a few single girls that he might get along with romantically. Attempting to fix him up with someone else will definitely let him know that he doesn't have a chance with you.

  5. Step 5

Contact the authorities if the guy you're not interested in starts to harass or stalk you. Watch for signs of his obsession or abusiveness such as reacting with jealousy when you talk about other guys or being irrationally angry when you avoid his calls or use your friends as go-betweens.
