From Quick Guide: Waffles
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Waffle iron
  • Cooking spray or butter and pastry brush
  • Whisk
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • 1 3/4 cups flour
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/8 tsp. salt
  • 2 large bowls
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 egg white
  • Mixer
  • 1 tsp. sugar
  • Spatula
  • 1/2 cup miniature chocolate chips
  1. Step 1

Preheat your waffle iron and spray with cooking spray or paint with melted butter. This can prevent the batter from sticking to the iron.

  2. Step 2

Whisk 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour, 2 tsp. baking powder and 1/8 tsp. salt in a large bowl. In another bowl, whisk 1 1/2 cups milk, 1 tsp. vanilla, 1 large egg and 1/4 cup melted butter together. Pour the wet mixture into the dry mixture and combine. Make sure the mixture is well blended.

  3. Step 3

Beat the egg white with a mixer at high speed. Sprinkle in 1 tsp. sugar and continue to beat the egg white until peaks form. Fold this into your batter. Gently fold in 1/2 cup chocolate chips.

  4. Step 4

Pour enough batter on the waffle iron to cover each hole on the iron. The amount should depend upon how large the iron is. Keep in mind that batter should spread once the lid is closed.

Tips & Warnings
  • If the waffle iron is already nonstick, don't worry about spraying it with cooking spray or applying melted butter.
  • It's preferable that the milk used in the recipe is room temperature.
  • After making all the chocolate chip waffles, you can easily pop leftovers into the freezer to eat at a later time.
