Everyone takes showers or baths on a daily basis. The bath mats always get soaked, no matter how careful you are. Bath mats with a rubber back get wet and get moldy, which is unhealthy. Easily toss these bath mats in the washer and dryer and wash. Make several of these bath mats for use in your home.

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Purchase large bath towels. You want these to match the décor of your bathroom. Purchase one towel for each bath mat you're making.

  2. Step 2

Fold the towel in half with the short ends together. Cut the end off of the towel that has the ribs. You want just the terrycloth part of the towel for your bath mat. Using a plate you can make the edges curved, which makes the binding easier to attach.

  3. Step 3

Buy some wide binding. You can either use binding that exactly matches your towels or something that contrasts a little but still matches your décor.

  4. Step 4

Pin the binding in place all the way around the towel. Make sure when you're pinning that both layers of the folded towel are attached to the binding.

  5. Step 5

Bring the binding around to the opposite side of the bath mat. Pin all the way around again. Stitch in place.

Tips & Warnings
  • Making bath mats is a good way to recycle old bath towels. If there are no holes in them, old towels are perfect for this project because it's usually the ends that get tattered anyway.
