2. Find out how many ants the ant-farm manufacturer recommends for the ant farm that you have. Ant farms come in different sizes, and you can even connect some ant farms together via a plastic tube. You would then need enough ants for a good colony dispersed throughout the farms.
3. Buy your ants from a company that guarantees that your ants will arrive alive. Their policy should dictate that they will replace any ants that are dead upon arrival.
4. Check first if you can find out which company is nearest to the area in which you live. This way, they will arrive quickly and your shipping costs may be less.
5. Shop around for a good price. The price for a tube of ants varies more than one might suspect.
6. Know that in some areas, shipping ants during the cold months is impossible, because the ants will not be able to survive such cold temperatures during their trip through the postal system.
