How to Pick a Location for a Bird's Cage

In most cases, your pet bird is limited to the house and never has the opportunity to be in natural sunlight. Even when their cages are by the window, they do not benefit from vitamin D3, which is beneficial to their health and gets ingested when they preen their feathers. Create a healthy and happy environment for your bird by choosing the right location for his cage.

Instructions

    • 1

Change the location of the cage often, or have multiple cages to provide a variety of views and eliminate bird boredom. Make sure you start moving his location as soon as you get him. Older or timid birds can become unhappy and frightened if moved. They have become so familiar and comfortable with their surroundings, it's best to keep them in one place.

    • 2

Take the bird and his cage outdoors whenever possible for a scenery change. He will get use to going out and will enjoy it. He will also gain the benefit from the natural sunlight providing him with vitamin D3. Make sure his outdoor cage has some shade to escape the sun at all times. If you cannot take him outside, you can create the same environment inside with full spectrum lighting.

    • 3

Research the natural lifestyle of your particular bird. When choosing his locations, try to provide temperatures and humidity levels that stay consistent and are comfortable and close to his natural environment.

    • 4

Acknowledge that although your bird should and does like to be a part of the family he does not like a lot of commotion or activity. Keep him out of very noisy areas and do not put him in the kitchen, chemicals and odors can be a health issue.

    • 5

Keep your bird warm in winter months by covering his cage to keep drafts away especially if his location is near a window or door.

Tips & Warnings

  • Do not allow your pet bird to roam free while you are out or away on vacation.
