How to Iron on a Countertop

Whether you are traveling or at home, you can iron clothing on a countertop with good results. Ironing boards aren't always available or maybe you're just in too much of a hurry to pull it out. In order to get good results, you must learn to correctly use a countertop when ironing clothes.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Iron
  • Thick bath towel
  • Pad for iron
  • Countertop ironing board
  1. Step 1

    Place a heavy bath towel over the countertop. Plug in the iron to heat it to the right temperature. Place a hot pad or other thick pad at the end of the towel to hold the iron.

  2. Step 2

    Lay the article of clothing on the towel and smooth it out. When the iron is heated, press out wrinkles on the padded countertop. Use steam from the iron or water from a spray bottle as needed.

  3. Step 3

    Use a countertop ironing board to get the job done conveniently. This gives you the best of both worlds. You can iron clothing on the countertop, but put everything away quickly and easily.

  4. Step 4

    Finish the ironing, unplug the iron and allow it to cool off in place while still protecting the countertop from the excess heat.

Tips & Warnings
  • When limited in space, ironing clothing on the countertop is a great idea.
  • You must protect the countertop with padding between it and your iron, or you will burn the counter.
