Step 1
Give your ants water within their habitat. Although they don't need a lot of water, they still need a small amount to thrive. Since the habitat contains sand, put one or two drops into the sand each day.
-
Step 2
Cut up pieces of fresh fruits. You should use pieces of fruit that hold up well if not eaten right away. Usually, apples work well since they're easy to slice. You can put two pieces every other day into the ant habitat.
-
Step 3
Serve vegetable slices regularly as well. To give the pet ants a change, you may want to serve veggies as well. Ants enjoy eating lettuce and celery pieces. Follow the same feeding schedule: give them a couple pieces every other day.
-
Step 4
Add a treat of sugar each week. Give your ants a couple drops of sugar water to enjoy once a week. Take a tiny pinch of sugar and mix it with the small amount of water.

Whether or not to add water daily depends on the type of habitat.Dirt habitats often need a daily watering to keep them damp, but one should be careful to avoid a flood.Modern gel habitats do not require watering or feeding. In this case, nutrients and water are provided by the gel environment itself.Ants kept in something like a shoebox may be provided water by way of damp cotton stuffed in a small plastic vial, or similar vessel, turned on its side. Deciding how often to refill the reservoir behind the cotton would depend on its volume.Different ant species often require different care, but all need to drink water daily. Ants are fascinating social creatures which deserve caretakers well-informed of their particular needs and tastes. The scope of this article is rather limited. Keep learning and have fun!
