How to Promote a Band
When you're part of an unsigned band, you need to learn methods of self-promotion. The more press and buzz you receive, the higher the chance you'll land more gigs or a record deal. Although you may have to put out some money to promote your band, you'll likely make a return on the investment.

1
Play open mic nights. Although you won't get any money for the gig, you can still build buzz about your band and start a fan base. Prepare for the open mic night and hand out flyers about your band at the show.
-
2
Offer to play for free. Although you may feel you deserve a lot of cash for your band's talent, you may have to start out playing for free or a very small fee. Speak to festival coordinators and bar managers about booking a non-paying gig.

3
Design a website. Your website should contain some audio and video samples for your fans to enjoy. Include your show schedule and contact information. You may also want to start a MySpace page to send out friend requests to area residents (see Resources below).
-
4
Hand out promotional materials at events. You can have stickers, t-shirts, cups and other items printed with your band's logo. Print your web address on the promo items in order to allow fans to access your music and show schedule.

Tips & Warnings
If you have the budget, you may want to hire a band manager. For a percentage, your manager will book your gigs as well as promote your band.
You may want to consider making up a press kit when trying to promote your band. Your press kit should include a photo, demo CD and letter about your band.

this is cool, I am not part of a band but I am playing with the idea of promoting, I already have a really well paying job, but the idea of bringing people together for something that I feel is cool just pulls me toward it some how. But this info has given me a good direction. And will be using it at a template for time to come.
