Buying a live concert recording is a good thing, but having a copy of the concert you just attended is even better. Every time you listen to the music, you'll remember how it felt to be at the stadium. Before trying to record a concert though, you need to keep in mind the best way to do it and buy a good recording device.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Small digital portable microphone
  • Digital recording device
  • Audio editor

Step1
Ask for permission to record the concert. It may sound like a pain, but some venues will throw out concert goers seen recording the event without permission.
Step2
Find the right place to sit or stand during the concert. Too close to the stage and you can get feedback, but too far away might result in poor audio sound.
Step3
Set up your equipment either on your body or in a designated location. This gives you the chance to make sure everything is working properly.
Step4
Determine what level your sound should be recorded on. In some cases you might need to record a small snippet of the band before recording.
Step5
Press the record button to begin recording the concert. There are a few digital recorders that also require you press the play button at the same time, so check your manual first.
Step6
Transfer the recording onto your home computer by using an audio editing software. Now you can listen to the concert, burn it onto a CD or share it with your friends.

Tips & Warnings

  • Try recording a few minutes of the opening act to gauge the sound of your microphone. If you need a quiet spot to playback the music, try the bathroom.
  • Make sure your equipment is in working condition and that your batteries are fresh before recording. You don't want your recorder to stop working halfway through the concert or not be able to pick up any sound at all.
  • Recording a concert is often considered an illegal activity. Make sure you check the concert's rules and regulations before recording anything.
  • Don't talk during the recording and ask your friends not to talk either unless you want that conversation recorded in the middle of your concert.
